Expertise

I am an experienced educator, researcher, and lecturer with a deep commitment to enhancing Māori wellbeing through the lenses of Mauritau mindfulness, placefulness, and mātauranga Māori. My career spans English medium and Kura Kaupapa Māori secondary teaching, as well as leadership in research and community projects that honour and revitalise indigenous knowledge. My research interests include: Māori mindfulness and wellbeing: Exploring the transformative potential of indigenous mindfulness practices rooted in Māori traditions. Child development through an indigenous lens: Investigating how mātauranga Māori informs child growth, attachment, and wellbeing. Indigenous educational psychology: Advocating for culturally resonant psychological frameworks that support indigenous learners. Pre-colonial parenting practices: Reviving and integrating Māori childrearing methods to foster secure attachments and holistic wellbeing. Indigenous placefulness and urban realities: Addressing the challenges of cultural connection and identity in urban environments. Social and environmental justice: Examining these critical intersections through indigenous perspectives to inform equitable practices and solutions. As a researcher, writer, and educator, I aim to bridge traditional Māori knowledge with contemporary understandings to inspire meaningful, collective change.
